BIKING FROM CORTONA TO BEVAGNA
This biking tour starts from Cortona, in Tuscany, and crosses Umbria, the “green heart” of Italy.
Highlights of this biking tour are the shores and the hills of the Trasimeno lake, the olive groves and the DOP extra virgin olive oil in Panicale, towns like Assisi, Spello and Bevagna with their cultural heritage.

Day 1
Arrival in Terontola train station.
Transfer to Cortona, setting for "Under the Tuscan Sun", where you can still admire the Etruscan cyclopean walls that encircle the town, walk trough the medieval old town looking up to the works of art of great artists or walk till the church of the Madonna del Calcinaio, typical Renaissance building.
Night in B&B.
Day 2
Welcome & bike fitting.
Cycling from Cortona to Poggio delle Corti (km 45), enjoy this itinerary that will bring you from Tuscany to Umbria, the green heart of Italy. You will bike along the Trasimeno lake, up an down the hills covered with olive groves and vineyards. If you are lucky, you will be able to enjoy the golden flowering of sunflower fields as in a paint of Van Gogh.
Night and dinner in a Country House.
Day 3
Trasimeno bike loop via Panicale (km 50). In this little villages, very well preserved you can take a rest in one of the bars in the main piazza (square) and sip a cappuccino or a glass of white wine.
Overnight and dinner in a Country House, where you can enjoy the quiet of the Umbria countryside and savoury a typical Italian dinner.
Day 4
Cycling from Poggio delle Corti to Perugia (km 32).
Perugia is a incredible medieval city. Walking through alleyways, little streets, small squares and steps will bring you through centuries of Etruscan, Roman and medieval history. You can stop at Caffè Sandri, the oldest coffee shop in Perugia that offers you wonderful cappuccinos, home made chocolate bonbons, and artistic and tastefully pies.
Strolling down-hill toward the medieval garden in the San Pietro church you can stop half an hour to visit the recent discovered Etruscan tomb of the Cai Cutu family: really impressive!
Or visit Rocca Paolina, an enchanting 15th century fortress, and get transported in the atmosphere of medieval days.
Then taste a delicious ice cream made only with typical Italian products and go to have a look to Palazzo dei Priori, where the most powerful people of Perugia used to meet to decide the sort of the city!
Night in a nice hotel in the old town and we will give you info on typical restaurants and pizzeria in town.
Day 5
Cycling from Perugia to Assisi (km 42).
Assisi is the city of Saint Francis and you can find in this fascinating medieval city with its narrow, tortuous and often steep streets, a mystical and peaceful atmosphere. You can admire the Basilica, consisting of two churches with a single overhead nave with Giotto's frescos. And there's a lot more to see.. from the Roman Temple of Minerva to the Chucrh of San Rufino, the Eremo delle Carceri and the Rocca maggiore.

Day 6
Cycling from Assisi to Bevagna via Spello (km 30).
Spello and Bevagna are 2 jewels: little villages very well preserved where you can understand how was life in the medieval age.

Day 7
Bevagna bike loop Via Montefalco (km 40). On request it’s possible to stop and have a wine tasting in Dionigi's cellar.
You will love it, one of the ancient ones in Montefalco, a hilly village surrounded by wineyards where the Sagrantino wine is produced.

Departure from Foligno train station.
